WELCOME to the MUSIC ON SUNDAYS SEASON 2019/20

You may notice the subtle change of name from Hertford Music Club! This is to highlight the really unique feature of the concerts and we wish to encourage people to enjoy an afternoon of good music on Sundays.

Our program is varied as ever! Subscribing to the Season offers extremely good value!

On September 22 local cellist, Rowena Calvert , will treat us to a couple of famous works. The Grand Tango by Piazzolla was first rejected by world-class cellist, Rostropovich. Subsequently he adopted it into his repertoire when he discovered so many other people playing it! Visit the website of Rowena’s accompanist to hear a stunning performance  of the classic Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin.

Our October piano recital is given by a young lady who has made an impression on Hertford audiences already. She is highly talented and arranges  major classical orchestral works for piano. She arranged the Rite of Spring by Stravinsky and performed it to accompany dancers at Hertford Theatre   a few years ago. She also organizes a festival of Chinese music in London. Interestingly her major study was chemistry!

In November we have a chance to hear the classical harp as played by Elizabeth Bass. This Artist is sponsored by the Countess of Munster musical trust. She is already well known as a star performer, and is also involved also in educational work.

After Christmas we have our first  accordionist plus violin  recital –  they guarantee a diverse and entertaining program

In February young baritone Ben Watkins offers us the complete song cycle “Die schöne Müllerin” by Schubert. Perhaps the composer’s most famous set of songs, is set to attract a following from beyond Hertford!

In March the Ensemble Mirage will treat us to the two most famous clarinet quintets by Mozart and by  Brahms. Their first violinist Alexandra Lomeiko, performed for us in 2017 and fell in love with the Quaker meeting house as a venue for music ! A real treat to end our season.
