Alexandra Lomeiko – Violin
Antonina Suhanova – Piano
We were greatly privileged to have these soloists play for the club on this beautiful sunny afternoon. It should be mentioned at the outset that we were indebted to the Countess of Munster trust for their generous provision which permitted us to host such high calibre artistes.
The programme they chose was a perfect showcase of their skills. The programme notes showed that these two had already made a big impression in the world of classical music.
It was with the classical composer, Beethoven, that they began; the Eb sonata. This was delivered with such passion and apparent ease that it could have been taken for less than the intricate masterpiece that it is.
Alexandra’s bold, confident attack was highly stimulating and matched by the outstanding pianistic skills of Antonina.
Less well-known was the Grand Duo by Schubert, a fine composition deserving more exposure, certainly when played with such attention to detail.
After the interval we floated into the 20th century with the sublime Sonata by Claude Debussy. Of course this embraced a new harmonic and structural world. Our artistes were perfectly confident in their sensitive performance of this work.
The final work, the Divertimento by Stravinsky was highly approachable and left us gasping with wonder when we noticed that Alexandra was playing this entirely from memory – wow.
Good luck to you both in your careers and thank you again to you both and your Sponsors.
