Hello Music Lovers
I so enjoyed singing ‘What a Wonderful World’ with the Courtyard Quartet on October 16.What a 70th Birthday weekend, so thank you again, Courtyard stars!
On 20 November we have a real coup -some local musicians have teamed up play the Trout quintet by Schubert. This in itself will be a great showpiece but a curiosity will be the Vaughan Williams quintet in C minor. And then we can all swoon to the sound of the Meditation from Thais by Massenet, surely one of the longest and most beautiful melodies ever written.
If you know of a longer or finer melody than this, please let me know.
I’ll start you off with the haunting clarinet solo at the start of the slow movement of Rachmaninov’s Symphony No 2 – beat that. Let me know on November 20 at the concert or by email.
In the meantime, see you at All Saints at 7.30 on Saturday November 5, where you hear the Hertford Choral Society and will be won over from the fireworks by the huge ‘Petite Messe Solenelle’ by Rossini or on Sunday at 7.45 on November13th at the Drill Hall Ware when Hertford Symphony Orchestra will play a programme featuring Wagner’s Siegfried Idyl.
