The Villiers String Quartet

18th January 2015 | 3pm – 5pm

Concert in Memory of Sir Norman Lindop.

This will take the form of a Lecture Recital, featuring an explanatory talk followed by a performance of Beethoven’s ‘Rasumovsky’ Quartet Opus 59 No 2.

The concert will start with Schubert’s brief but passionate ‘Quartettsatz’ and is dedicated to the memory of another faithful member of the club Sir Norman Lindop. We are grateful to his widow, Jenny, for helping us to hire the magnificent Villiers Quartet again to play the Beethoven Quartet. Opus 59 No.2 … the choice of her family, and, as Sir Norman would have wished, this will be presented as a Lecture Recital. After a warm-up with the single movement ‘Quartetsatz’ by Schubert – tantalisingly short as he was not able to complete the work, members of the Quartet will take us on a tour through the major themes of the Beethoven work for the rest of the first half of the concert. Duly fortified by cup of tea, we will enjoy the entire quartet during the second half of the concert.

This will prove to be a memorable occasion so please bring as many friends and family as possible!
